In 2024, Black Friday will start at midnight on Thursday 28th November. It’s the start of the first Friday after Thanksgiving in the US. At evec, our Black Friday deals will start from Thursday 21st November and run right through until midnight on 2nd December.

The term in reference to shopping first appeared in the 1960s in reference to the queues created by shoppers on the day in the US. Later, its meaning was changed to the day when retailers accounts went from being ‘in the red’ to ‘in the black.’ Interestingly, in the UK, the term ‘Black Friday’ typically referred to the last Friday in December when pressure was put on the police and NHS due to Christmas celebrations. However, since 2014 the term has changed to align with the massive shopping event the US first launched in the 1960s.
