evec Wall Charger Installation Guide - Step-by-Step Instructions for Electrical Contractors

If you're getting ready to install an evec wall charger, you're in for a straightforward job. Let's walk through the key steps to get this EV charger up and running smoothly.

What’s inside the box?

Inside the box you will find:

  • Installation manual
  • Statement of compliance
  • Warranty leaflet
  • Mounting template
  • CT clamps
  • Fixing kit
  • The charger

Prep work

Before you start drilling holes, take a moment to inspect the charger. Remove the mounting bracket (keep those screws handy!) and take off the front cover. There's a delicate cable connecting the two halves, so be gentle. Give the internals a quick once-over to make sure everything's ship-shape.

Mounting the charger

  1. Use the mounting template to mark your drill spots, making sure to check the level.
  2. Drill your holes and pop in those wall plugs.
  3. Secure the mounting bracket to the wall.
  4. Decide on your cable entry point - you've got rear or bottom options.
  5. Drill your cable entry hole. Don't forget a separate hole for the CT cable.
  6. Mount the charger body onto the bracket.

Wiring it up

Time to get those connections sorted:

  1. Route your inlet wire and seal it with the supplied gland – this maintains the IP rating of the charger.
  2. Follow the wiring diagram to terminate all connections.
  3. Double-check those DIP switch positions for the right power output.

CT clamp installation

This bit's crucial for smart charging:

  1. Thread the CT clamp wire through its designated hole.
  2. Connect to the PCB, making sure black wire is above red wire in the connector.
  3. Attach the CT clamp to a live wire between the meter and consumer unit.

Finishing up

  1. Install the Type A 30mA RCBO for circuit protection.
  2. Make sure everything is connected securely, then turn on the power to the wall box.
  3. The charger will do a self-check. You’ll see the light flashing red, blue and green. Once it’s ready, the light will stay solid blue on standby.
  4. Secure the front cover and tighten those screws.

Commissioning

  • 1.Hold the function button for 10 seconds to enter pairing mode.
  • 2.Help your customer set up the evec app and connect to their home WiFi.
  • 3.Set up load management in the app settings.

Pro tips

  • For solar integration, just activate ECO (solar only) mode in the app.
  • Need plug-and-play? Press the function button five times, twice. Easy peasy.
