OZEV Grant & Workplace Charging Scheme Deadline - Everything You Need to Know from evec

Posted by Gillian Rodgers on 13th Mar 2024

How much is the OZEV grant?

Whether you're a homeowner, renterbusiness owner, or manage a public building, the government is offering generous grants to help you install EV chargers. This means that you could receive:

  • £350 per socket
  • £500 per car parking space for future infrastructure, and £850 for bays that'll have an electric vehicle
  • 75% off up to £35,000

We're here to guide you through the upcoming OZEV Grant and Workplace Charging Schemes, making sure you don't miss out on valuable opportunities to save on EV charging.

When does the OZEV grant end?

The deadline for grant applications has been extended until 31st March 2025, giving an additional year to apply. Wondering if your property or vehicle qualifies? Here's a quick rundown:

Who can apply for the OZEV grant?

For residential properties:

  • Reside in a rented property or own a flat with dedicated off-street parking.
  • Provide evidence of owning, leasing, or having access to an eligible electric vehicle.
  • Ensure the selected charge point is from the list of OZEV approved models, guaranteeing quality and reliability.

For infrastructure and staff fleet (businesses):

  • Must be registered at either companies house or VAT registered with HMRC.
  • Install charge points exclusively for staff use, covering a minimum of 5 car parking spaces.
  • Partner with an OZEV approved installer and use approved charge points to qualify for grants.

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) eligibility:

The WCS is accessible to all businesses, provided they meet specific criteria:

  • Sufficient off-street parking exclusively for staff use, either on-site or within a reasonable walking distance. Expect for charities and small accommodation businesses, who can claim the WCS without the restrictions of who can use the off street parking.
  • Demonstrate current or future interest in integrating electric vehicles into business operations.
  • Install charging points through an OZEV approved installer to claim WCS benefits.

Important information for businesses:

The WCS and the Infrastructure Grant can be claimed alongside each other. To do so you must firstly claim at least one charge point through the EV Infrastructure Grant, then use the WCS Grant to claim help with charge points afterwards. Both grants may be used for the same site but importantly, they cannot be used for the same charge points.

Is my car eligible for the OZEV grant?

All full battery electric vehicles are eligible for this scheme. If you have a plug-in hybrid vehicle you must have C02 emissions calculated to be under 50g/km to be eligible for the scheme. To confirm whether your EV is eligible for the scheme, check this list on the government website: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/reside...
