The truth is, this depends on a few factors:
  • The charger you’ve picked: untethered, tethered or a dual charger
  • The distance from the consumer unit
  • If any groundwork or DNO upgrades are required
  • The complexity of your installation and labour costs
  • If your existing electrical system needs to be upgraded in any way

No, we would not recommend installing an EV charger yourself unless you’re a qualified electrician.
Not necessarily. While a great deal of electricians can install EV chargers, we’d strongly recommend hiring one with EV installation experience to make sure they’re compliant with:

  • Electric codes
  • Load calculations
  • Safety requirements
All of evec’s approved installers are vetted and approved by our team to ensure that your installations meet our high quality standards and are fully compliant with the latest standards.
The timescale between ordering your charger and having it installed can vary depending on the complexity of your installation and your location. However, we aim to ensure all our installations are completed between 2 and 3 weeks to get you up and running as quickly as possible. The actual installation can take between 2 to 6 hours depending on:

  • The distance from the consumer unit
  • Any need for upgrades
  • The complexity of the wiring
Absolutely! Many of our evec chargers have been installed in garages. They’re ideal locations for charges for:

  • Proximity to your EV
  • Easy access to power for our chargers
Yes! This is where most of our chargers are installed. All evec chargers are weatherproof so they’re completely safe to install outside.
Yes! You’ll just need to check with your building manager first and check on the existing electrical infrastructure. Flat owners are still eligible for EV chargepoint grants under the government OZEV scheme. This means you can get either £350 or 75% off the cost to buy and install a socket (whichever is lower). This scheme ends on 31st March 2025. If your apartment block has a shared car park we’d also recommend a shared charger like our pedestals, DC chargers or vecGO DUO. If you’d like to talk to us about the specific requirements for either of the above options, just get in touch using the form above and a member of our lovely team will be in touch to talk through this with you. Alternatively, you can get in touch via live chat, 0161 249 6780 or customerservices@evec.co.uk.
Absolutely! You’ll just need approval from your landlord to do this. Under the OZEV scheme, as a renter, you may still be eligible for EV chargepoint grants under the government OZEV scheme. This means you can get either £350 or 75% off the cost to buy and install a socket (whichever is lower). This scheme ends on 31st March 2025. If you’d like some help getting landlord approval or would just like to talk through the options with us get in touch via live chat, 0161 249 6780 or customerservices@evec.co.uk.
Under the OZEV EV grant scheme, renters and flat owners could get either £350 or 75% off the cost to buy and install a socket (whichever is lower). This scheme ends on 31st March 2025 so please apply now. You are eligible for the scheme if:

  • you live in a flat that you own (this includes flats bought through the shared ownership scheme), or you rent a residential property
  • your home has its own private off-street parking space
  • you own or use an eligible vehicle

You cannot apply if:

  • you live in a house that you own (unless it’s converted into flats and you live in just one of the flats)
  • you rent accommodation where the landlord or homeowner lives - for example, if you’re a lodger in someone else’s home
  • you’re moving house or planning on moving
  • you’ve already claimed the grant (or its predecessors, the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) and the Domestic Recharge Scheme)
  • you want to replace a chargepoint, even if the existing one is incompatible with your new car
  • you want to move an existing chargepoint to a new property
  • there must by law be a chargepoint - for example, because your home is a new build

To install an EV charger, your electrician will notify DNO, building control and issuing electrical certification.
Yes, the exact increase will depend on local EV adoption rates but the National Association of Property Buyers estimates an increase of between £3,000 to £5,000 to your home’s value.

However, this could be more. An analysis of 1,000 house prices in 50 UK areas, by Rivervale Leasing in 2021, found that homes with electric charge points installed sold for 13% more than the local average. This equated to an average increase of £25,000.

Given the UK’s goal to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 and the rise in demand for home EV charging this will bring, installed chargers will be more appealing to consumers. However, the actual value increase will depend on market conditions, EV adoptions and the availability of public infrastructure in the area.
